Harm Reduction Governance
Local health governance remains to be a space in need of deepened people’s participation. In most cases, local health responses to community needs better health- seeking behavior which could only be attained by increasing the community awareness and overcoming misconceptions and stigma. As an institution working with both local health government units, communities, and community-based people’s organizations, IPG has navigated the available spaces for government-civil society participation in an array of local health concerns and programs:
- Capacity Building and Community Participation in Health: IPG strengthened the skills of Barangay Health Workers and encouraged community involvement in local health care through training, research, and participatory planning.
- Human Rights and Harm Reduction in Health Governance: IPG promoted humane, inclusive, and rights-based approaches in local government responses to drug issues by integrating harm reduction and public health services into local systems.
- COVID-19 Emergency Response: IPG launched the HEAL program to support LGUs during the pandemic, offering both direct (financial and material) and indirect (technical) assistance tailored to local needs.
